This doll is wearing her original
dress - it was also available in Red & had a matching headband.
Mary Make up
was supplied with washable face make up for girls to experiment with.
Unfortunately many girls used felt tip pens on their dolls faces with
permanent results! It can be quite difficult to find a 'clean' example
of this doll.
Typically they look very anaemic without colour to their faces.
The body mould is identical to Tressy but without the hair winding
mechanism, even down to the wind direction arrow embossed into the
plastic.
This can help identify a genuine Mary make up from one of the many
copies that are around.
The special cosmetics were sold separately in special displays on the
counters in toy shops - just for us to drool over! Poor Mary is not so
popular with collectors, so she will only fetch a few pounds, unless she
is boxed. |
